Ray Barr, Head Golf Professional
Ray was raised in the small town of Brownsville, Texas. He was introduced to golf at the age of 13, learning the game from his Dad, starting a long love affair of the game. He attended the University of Houston from 1977 to 1981 and graduated with a degree in Business Technology. Ray made the University of Houston golf team as a walk-on where he was a 3-time All American, 2-time Southwest Conference Medalist earning invitations to play in the Colonial Invitational on the PGA Tour as an Amateur. In 1982, he earned his PGA Tour card in 1982 and was a member for 7 years from 1982 to 1992; Qualifying Medalist for the 1980 US Open. His best finish on the Tour was 4th place. In 1996, Ray earned his Class A PGA certification while working as an Assistant Golf Pro in Little Rock, Arkansas. We are proud to have had Ray as our Head Professional here at Jacksonville Golf & Country Club for the past 17 years.
